Title & ownership

The vehicle being on your property does not always mean you can sell it.

This practical guide explains the information Junk Cars TN may request. It is not legal advice, and official Tennessee requirements control.

Start with lawful authority

You should be the titled owner or have legally sufficient authority to sell the vehicle. We do not purchase stolen, abandoned or unlawfully possessed vehicles.

Important distinction

A vehicle left on private property may be subject to Tennessee’s abandoned, immobile or unattended vehicle process. Do not assume possession creates ownership.

Documents commonly requested

  • Government-issued identification.
  • The original vehicle title, properly assigned when required.
  • A lien release or payoff documentation when applicable.
  • Power of attorney or legal authority when the owner cannot sign.
  • VIN, accurate odometer information when required, and keys if available.

What if the title is missing?

Depending on the facts, you may need a replacement title, bonded-title process, estate documents, court authority or another state-approved solution.
